What are the conditions for granting funding?

Funding granted by the Foundation for Finnish Inventions is risk financing, which means that no securities are required. The form of funding provided by the Foundation is support funding.

SUPPORT FUNDING

When an idea or invention has progressed to the Foundation's development stage, it may be granted support funding. Support funding is intended for, among other things, patenting, product development and commercialisation. Support funding is conditionally repayable, depending on the project's success and revenues. If the project is a commercial success, support funding needs to be repaid to the Foundation for Finnish Inventions. If, on the other hand, no profitable business is generated based on the idea, repayment of the support funding is not required.

Repayment of the support funding

The support funding is paid back to the Foundation for Finnish Inventions according to the following options:

Exploiting the invention in the inventor's own business operations

  • The share of the Foundation is normally three (3) per cent of the VAT-free sales price of the product or service manufactured on the basis of the invention.

Selling or licensing or exploiting the invention in a way comparable with these

  • The Foundation's share is normally thirty (30) per cent of the VAT-free lump sum and royalty payments to the inventor or his or her company. The royalty percentage may vary from case to case.

The funding agreement is valid for a period of 12 years. If the invention is quickly commercialised, the amount to be repaid to the Foundation may also be returned as a lump-sum payment before the agreement period expires.
