Who is eligible for assistance or funding from the Foundation for Finnish Inventions?

Funding from the Foundation for Finnish Inventions can be granted to private persons and early start-up enterprises for the development and commercialisation of an innovative product or service. University researchers who own the rights to their idea or invention are also considered private persons. Eligibility for funding requires that the person is domiciled in Finland or that the company is based in Finland.

The studies carried out during the initial evaluation represent indirect assistance; in other words, the inventor is not granted funding at this stage.

It is only during the Foundation's development stage that it is possible to receive support funding for the development of an idea or invention. If the invention is commercialised, the support funding must be repaid to the Foundation. The Foundation can also commission more in-depth studies on the idea during the development stage, which is considered indirect assistance.
