In-depth assessment of the idea

When assessing the viability of a new idea or invention, the market potential of the product or service is mapped out in more depth than during the initial evaluation. More extensive competitor analyses and additional studies concerning the market and the idea are carried out and the idea is processed further to increase its functionality.

If this process reveals that your idea has international growth potential, a development team is set up around your idea, consisting of experts from the Foundation for Finnish Inventions and external partners, to assist you in developing your idea into a business.

Ideas or inventions targeted at the national market are channelled to other financiers and operators.

Commercial assessment means evaluating the sales and marketing opportunities of the idea or invention. We figure out, for example, who would need and use the product or service, in what sector it would be exploited and what arguments would be used to sell it. We can also assess the inventor's business know-how and the possibility of starting up business operations based on the idea or invention.

Technical assessment focuses on weighing the functionality of the idea or invention. Together with the inventor of the idea, our experts reflect on the technical functionality, purpose of use, industrial applicability and benefits and risks of the idea. Comparison to competitive solutions is also important.

Industrial property rights assessment starts with studying the novelty and inventiveness of the idea or invention. At the same time consideration is given to the protection of the idea under industrial property law, such as patenting.

The assessment of funding needs is begun by identifying which further studies or measures are required for the development of your idea and by assessing the development costs. As possible funding sources for developing the idea or invention, we consider the Foundation's own financing instruments and also look into the funding services offered by other public and private financiers and investors.
